LENO hits the rim, sinks a two-point winner, supports two basketball teams

Regulators Basketball and Eagles Nest Basketball teams received an early New Year’s present in the form of a $6,050 donation from Leno Group of Companies, a leading financial, trust and real estate services provider. Regulators Basketball Team was formed back in 1999 by Police Corporal 1361 Don Dorsette (aka “Coach Robo” on the court), who wanted to start a boys club and use basketball as the magnet to teach lifelong skills and offer tutoring to struggling young men. It was his way to give back and minister to young men in his community, many of whom came from disadvantaged situations. Impressed with the Regulator’s success on and off the court, Sterling Pratt, a basketball veteran, teamed up with Dorsette to form Eagles Nest Basketball team in 2005.

Both teams compete in the top men’s basketball league in the country, the “New Providence Basketball Associating (NPBA),” which features two divisions: Division 1 – for players 25 years and older, and Division 2 – for players 24 years and younger. Over the years hundreds of young men have grown up on the courts playing ball and winning national championships with the teams, and Dorsette is proud of their accomplishments. To date, the teams have produced two professional basketball players, eight college players, four police officers and a number of outstanding young men.

“This is the third straight season that Regulators and Eagles Nest Basketball Teams have been ‘powered’ by Leno and we are truly grateful for their support,” said Corporal Dorsette. Funds will be used to pay entrance fees to the NPBA and help cover operating costs including awards, team travel expenses, uniforms and equipment.

“The transition from boyhood to manhood is rarely easy, and we salute the commitment shown by Corporal Dorsette and Sterling Pratt to help mentor, train and develop our young boys into becoming good men on and off the basketball court,” said Leno Group of Companies President and founder Sean K. Longley. The company will mark its 10th anniversary this year. From its initial role as provider of corporate services, Leno grew and diversified and now includes a real estate company, brokerage, corporate and trust company. Plans are underway to expand the company’s real estate holdings and expand its presence in the Latin American and Asian markets.
